I never sit with silence. First thing in the morning, I turn on NPR. In the car and at home, I listen to music or a podcast or an audiobook. Even when I go to bed, I usually have a Headspace meditation or “sleepcast.”
Tonight, though, I decided to just sit quietly and be present—with my cat. I even spent some time without looking at a screen or picking up a book or doing anything but give attention to my cat. Taking a break from all the noise gave me a new sense of clarity.
It gives “quiet Friday night” a new meaning.
