One of the toughest adjustments of moving to a small town has been the lack of nightlife. I’ve never been a major partier, but I did used to enjoy going to a bar with friends on Friday or Saturday nights. That’s not really an option here; everything shuts down pretty early, and, in fact, most places are only open for a few hours a day anyway. It’s almost like the whole town is in a state of hibernation, waiting for some chosen one to come wake it up. (Did any of you watch ABC’s Once Upon a Time?)
So, it’s only fitting that, in this hibernating town, I went to a bear-themed diner. Yep, it’s bear themed. No, it doesn’t have taxidermied bears—and I consider that a plus.
I don’t normally like going to restaurants alone, but tonight, I brought a book and took some time for myself. It was nice to have a quiet evening out of the house.
As I drove home, an animal—most likely a raccoon—darted across the road in front of me, but without streetlights (again, small town), I couldn’t tell what it was. For the sake of tying this post up in a neat little bow, I’m going to choose to believe it was a tiny bear. (It wasn’t.)
