Day 14

For today’s act of spontaneity, I decided to… go to sleep.

My sleep habits are horrendous. Every day this week, I have snoozed my alarm for an hour. This doesn’t mean I woke up at 5 a.m. and then went back to sleep until 6. Oh no. That would be far too logical. No, instead, I woke up at 5, and then 5:20, and then 5:30, and then 5:40, and then 5:50, and then 5:55, and then 6. And then, around 6:05, I finally dragged myself out of bed. Every day. For a week.

Part of this is disillusionment with the rat race, yes, but part of it is a direct consequence of failure to fall asleep before midnight.

Put simply, I’m tired.

Tonight, when I first started dozing off around 8 p.m., my first thought was not to go to bed early like a normal person; instead, I considered taking a nap and then waking up around 10 p.m. or so. Actually turning in early came then, as a fleeting thought, and now I’m going to bed before my bedtime. How mature of me. Or regressive? I haven’t decided yet.

Anyway, I’m being spontaneous by listening to my drooping eyelids and actually going to sleep. (Shh, inaction is action in its own way. This counts.)

Maybe I’ll have a more exciting tale of cocktails and cliff diving tomorrow, but until then, sweet dreams.

Why am I sleeping at 9 p.m.? Check out my “About” page for more information.
