There should be an app that shows the locations of picnic tables in public outdoor areas. It can also have a rating system for proximity to public bathrooms and likelihood of being stabbed, among other things.
Something called “Benches” already exists.

I propose we make a companion app called “Tables.”
Go ahead, techies; that’s my gift to you. Go forth, and make millions. I’ll wait.
My act of spontaneity today was to hang out at the only picnic table I know about in my town. Or, at least, that was my intention until I drove by. I ultimately decided that a well-trafficked area would be a better bet at this time of night, and I opted for the patio of a local tea shop.
Eventually, the sun abandoned me, but it was nice to read outside for a while. Cigarette smoke may have poisoned the air, and a pair of skateboarding teens may have been a bit distracting, but there was a pleasant chill in the air, and the world felt open.
Maybe next time I’ll try the wine bar next door!
