Tonight was supposed to be my dad’s first performance in decades—in my whole life. I’ve always known him to play music, but he only started marketing himself again recently.
For the past week, I’d been planning on supporting him at tonight’s performance. I made all the arrangements I needed to make—and then weather wrecked everything. The venue notified him earlier today that it would be too cold for him to perform.
Dismantled plans gave rise to spontaneity, so I brought him a six pack of his favorite beer to try to cheer him up.
